Funniest comic book ad EVER.
I always laugh whenever I see this ad. It’s for TSR’s Dungeon game, a board game based on the fantasy tropes of D&D.

There is just something so awkward about the framing of the picture. It looks like the jocks are playing the game just to humour the little geeky kid… like they’re about to kick his ass or something. And the geek knows it, too:

“That’s a twenty, gents. Looks like Kragamor The Destroyer wins the day again, heh, heh.”

“Your ass is grass, Poindexter!”
“Yeah, when we get back from shopping for more geometric-print sweaters, you are DONE!”
BONUS: Clip from the final episode of Freaks and Geeks, where the AV Club invites bad-ass Daniel to join their D&D campaign.

Hahahahahaha! He must have bribed them into playing “No way guys, I ain’t doing your homework anymore”
“C’mon man, we’ll do anything! What do you want? Tickets the Football game? 15 minutes in the backseat with my Backdoor Barbara? Cash?……Oh God! Not THAT! We’re Not D&D with you, You sick motherfucker!”
Apologies for the spelling/grammaical errors in that last post, ladies and gents. Its damn near 6 in the morning and I’ve yet to have my morning Tall Boy from AM PM. So without further adieu…….
That’s great, I remember seeing that on TV.
I have problems viewing the pictures on your blogs but i guess it’s the crappy uni computers…
I can’t see them either. What’s the deal?
I interpreted the picture differently. It seems to me that the nerd is the one in control; almost as if he knows something about those two flamboyantly dressed young lads that could get them into a lot of trouble, if you catch my meaning…
The jock with the fancy sweater in the middle looks like he is grinning uncomfortably, “You won’t tell anyone what you saw, right? Me an Lance were just practicing for a play…Together…In the shower…Heh-hehe….*gulp*”
And the nerd is like, “Yesss…Now I hold all the pieces. Before I was the hunted but now I am the Dungeon Master.”
Is it just me, or do the two jocks kind of look like Gribble and Tiger from “Round The Twist”?
It’s just you.
Prick.
I’m sorry. You can still come to my birthday.
Maybe I’ll be busy. Another friend’s having their birthday party the same day. My mum said no.
I miss watching freaks and geeks with you. Relaxing on the couch, and hm.. now that I think about it, often eating lemon chicken.
Hey, you’re right. And here I thought I was just being random.
“You’re so smart!” (Billy Madison)
