‘Gotta get up, gotta get going!’
As if that isn’t the best cartoon theme song ever. As if.
I love how it charts a range of feelings… excitement, optimism, whimsy, SHEER TERROR, and then finishes on a schmaltzy, sentimental note.
The show was pretty crappy, but that theme song sure got me pumped for the weekend when I was very young (A.A. Milne reference, fools!) Especially the first few lines. There’s such feeling in that soulless Disney studio singer’s voice.
That bit where Piglet’s hiding under the furniture and Winnie the Pooh fills the lightning-lit doorway was scary in a frissony kinda way, especially in winter when everyone else was still in bed, it was still dark outside, and I was in the loungeroom watching Saturday Disney by myself.
I don’t know what the deal is with that aurora borealis shit at the end, but for me it really sums up The Walt Disney Company Pty Ltd ™ and ©, Esq. Pretty colours. Pretty colours is Disney.
All of the shows from the Disney TV renaissance had great theme songs: Gummi Bears, DuckTales, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Chip ‘N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, but none of them were more in sync with what it felt like to be a kid on Saturday morning than The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

I like how true your blogs are. They’re just so….true. I can’t wait til I’m old so I can reminisce like you.
Damn kids. Get off my lawn! My… blog lawn.
Yeah, I used to get up in the morning and watch Pooh before I went to play hockey is freezing temperatures.
I can’t believe the stuff you find on YouTube Dan! I love it!
You can’t help but jump out of your chair and start clapping along when that chorus kicks in.
Oh, my a-God! I haven’t seen that intro in YEARS!!! I used to always get up early on Saturday mornings to watch those Disney cartoons, without a doubt, I’d be the ONLY one in the family who’d do that, the rest of my siblings enjoyed sleeping in. I never could understand why. And EVERY week I’d swear to myself that I’d go to the effort to write in and prey that my letter would be drawn and I’d win all that stuff they’d just give away. You know? That stuff? And you write in? To the … to the people? And junk? Never did though. I often thought about it. What I’d write about, trying to impress them with the fact that we owned two dogs AND two cats. HUGE.
And yeah, that intro IS emotional! I still get a little scared when Piglet’s at home alond during that storm. But then, Pooh! Awesome, awesome!
Wow! Thanks for the reminiscing fun times, Dan!
Yeah, those prize packs were frickin’ awesome. I wanted to write in, but knew it was pointless cos the people who won always went to the extra effort of knitting a quilt featuring Disney characters or discovering a new insect species and naming it after Chip or Dale or something.
I feel the same way about the David the Gnome theme. You should review more theme songs. Thats spot on.
ah, saturday disney on i think 7.
that and agros cartoon connection were my faverite shows, and this was one intro that i had forgot about until i saw this.
cheers for reminding me, you described it exactly the way i remember it.
and yeah those prize pack where awsome, my friend won one in 96 with a whole bunch of vids, plush toys, cds and shirts in it.
check this out.

bit shit but all i could find.
you should do a blog on this.
Wow. Thanks for posting that, dude. I’ve been looking for footage of Agro for ages! (Last time I looked on YouTube there was nothing…
I taped Agro’s appearance on the Channel 7 50th Anniversary special, and that had a few ‘highlights’ from the show, but nothing much. What I wouldn’t give for a couple of full episodes on old VHS tapes. I’m sure they’re out there in suburbia somewhere.
I was planning on doing a Retro Junk article on Agro, but I think I’ll just wait until I (if ever) launch my dinky-di, true blue Aussie nostalgia site.
sounds sweet, youve got to do a bit on couch potato, that show kicked ass.
i remember it was after rage, which used to scare the shit out of me as a kid with that big face that says RAGE.
at least that hasnt changed in like 15 years or so.
keep up the good work
DARKWING DUCK!!!!!! …Thats all I have to say, really. Just….. DARKWINGGGGGG…. I miss it.
And I agree- your blogs are so true. I agree with almost everything you say. I miss GOOD cartoons. poor kids of today.
